"Shoot the Hills"

9th Annual Nature Photography Weekend Competition
April 16-18, 2010

You are cordially invited to participate in one of the region’s largest photo competitions of the year from April 16-18, 2010! The Hocking Hills State Park will host the 9th annual "Shoot the Hills" Photography Competition Weekend.

Prizes will include $1000 cash, distributed between the Grand Prize winners and the winner of the coveted Photographers Choice Award. In addition, ribbons and/or trophies will be awarded to the competition's "Category Winners." A total of 53 winners will be named in the competition's two judged divisions: (1) Digital Point-n-Shoot (suggested for beginners); and (2) Digital SLR (suggested for those more advanced).

A separate, non-judged Print Division is an additional opportunity for fun and prizes. The top three winners will be chosen by the public, who may purchase "Voting Tickets" for a nominal fee. The winner splits the collection of entry fees (50/50) with event promoters, and is awarded a trophy. Second and third places will receive recognition and ribbons.

All winning entries (including each winning photographer's name and photo credit) will also be printed in a new Collector's Edition book, showcasing the Hocking Hills. It is the intention of event promoters to add a new volume to the book series each year to honor the winners of Shoot the Hills.

The highlight of the competition weekend is a 24-hour digital photo contest encompassing four Ohio counties: Hocking, Athens, Fairfield, and Vinton.

The contest is open to all ages, but participants must supply their own digital cameras , media cards, and computers to use.

All activities are open to the public free of charge, although a $35 registration fee (or $30 for pre-registration) is required to enter the contest. The weekend also includes vendors, photography programs, special speakers, nature hikes, plus a unique photo opportunity with birds of prey by the Hocking Hills State Park Naturalist.

NOTE: In the Digital SLR Division, photographers are required to shoot in a camera RAW mode. All photographers must also have the capability to view, edit, select, and burn their entries onto a CD. Computers will not be available, but a CD will be provided to each contestant. (For more information see the Digital Division Guidelines Addendum.)

The event will again be held at the Hocking Hills Dining Lodge on SR 664 South in Logan (formerly the Hocking Hills Park Office).

This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Hocking Hills State Park and in part by a grant from Hocking Hills Tourism Association and support from HockingHills.com

We hope that you will join us this year!
