Hocking Hills needs more friends, more funds, and more support
Calling all outdoor enthusiasts, the natural beauty of Hocking Hills State Park is facing challenging times ahead. Since 1991 state funding to the state parks has been reduced 45%. Jobs of park rangers and personnel have been cut, programs cancelled and services reduced. The Friends of Hocking Hills State Park (FHHSP) help to sustain the park’s programs and projects through donations and volunteers. That is why the ongoing programs and improvements provided by the Friends of the Hocking Hills are invaluable.
What Friends has done about these problems …
Through past fundraising efforts, the Friends have donated more than $225,000 to fund rope rescue safety equipment, portable defibrillators, and playground equipment in the campground, a new archery range, naturalist programs, live animal care, and a butterfly habitat. These improvements have been made without state funds or fees to users, through the generosity of people just like you who love the area and have donated to the Friends of the Hocking Hills.
These programs are necessary for the park to remain a free area for outdoor enthusiasts and nature education. Currently, funding for state parks has experienced another budget cut of 8%. This means Hocking Hills will lose $70,000 out of their budget. State budget cuts will continue to threaten the future programs in the Hocking Hills State Park. That is why the ongoing programs and improvements provided by the Friends of Hocking Hills are invaluable.
We would appreciate your time, money, and support to help us reach our goals.......
GOAL: To recruit 100 individual members, to recruit 25 new business members, and to raise $50,000 to support the ongoing programs and projects at Hocking Hills State Parks.
Our efforts to raise $50,000 will be used in two ways:
1) $25,000 will be used towards updating and improving the Visitor’s Center at Old Man’s Cave. This project will include gutting and remodeling the interior of the visitors’ center, new interactive nature exhibits, and expanding the gift shop to allow for additional retail sales.
2) $25,000 will be added to the Friends of Hocking Hills general fund to continue their work to support diversified programs that allow Hocking Hills to maintain high conservation standards and ensure a better place for nature education for the children of today and the future.
